June 15, 2023

In February 2020, there was a happy-go-lucky little girl named Keira, who suffered a terrible fate. She was killed, and the murderer was her father, who did it as an act of revenge. Keira's mother and stepfather, palliative care physician, Dr. Jennifer Kagan and family lawyer, Philip Viater, join us to discuss the legal reforms they have pursued around domestic violence, in hopes that no other … [Read more...]

US child killings have risen rapidly – why are more states pushing for joint custody laws?

May 19, 2023

Early one day last year, Kellie Elliott stopped by her estranged husband Shane’s house outside Camden in western Ohio. Her 13-year-old son, Caleb, and 10-year-old daughter, Gracie, had spent the weekend there, but they hadn’t turned up for school that snowy morning of 25 January 2022. CJE’s Mission

CJE is a nonprofit organization based in San Rafael, California. Our mission is to protect child abuse and domestic violence survivors in the U.S. family court system and to foster accountability throughout the judicial branch.

For nearly two decades, the Center has been a voice for vulnerable children and a catalyst for child safety as we work tirelessly to expose the systemic failures in U.S. family courts that are harming countless children. We accomplish this by educating the media, lawmakers, and the public about the need for significant reforms while we spearhead legislation focused on keeping children safe and alive through their parent’s divorce or separation.
