Father Kills His Two Sons After Texting Wife ‘You’re going to live with this the rest of your life.’

May 5, 2021

Paul Reinhart had separated from his wife and recently lost his high-paying executive job — in the early hours of May 4, 2021, he had bizarrely published 64 photos from their wedding 19 years ago to his Facebook page and texted his estranged wife, Minde, around the same time — “You should have put your family first,” he wrote. “Now it's too late. You're so selfish. You're going to live with this … [Read more...]

To Stop Domestic Violence, We Need to Listen to Science About Abusers

April 28, 2021

The recent tragic triple homicide in Austin is a stark reminder that perpetrators of domestic violence can, and sometimes do, escalate to homicide. That happened at least 178 times this past year in Texas alone. The Texas Council on Family Violence’s compelling and gut-wrenching annual report offers a brief account of each Texas victim. Stephen Broderick, who is accused of the shootings in … [Read more...]

‘I’m afraid he might hurt me’: After Her Court Plea for Protection, Alyssa Broderick was Killed by Her Abusive Stepfather

April 24, 2021

Alyssa Broderick's murder is a horrific example of a long-standing problem that hardly ever makes headlines: America’s criminal justice system too often fails to protect victims of domestic and family violence from their abusers. It was her worst fear - her stepfather was out of jail and she knew she wasn’t safe. Then 16, Alyssa Broderick told a court that Stephen Broderick, a former … [Read more...]

Illinois House Approves ‘Colton’s Task Force’ Domestic Violence Legislation

April 18, 2021

On Friday, April 16th, the Illinois House approved legislation sponsored by State Representative David Welter, following a horrific incident in his district in September 2019 when Christopher Miller, the estranged husband of Cassandra Tanner-Miller, was out on bond and went to Tanner-Miller’s home and brutally beat Tanner-Miller, attacked his stepdaughter, and shot and killed their 18-month old … [Read more...]

UK Parliament Facing Growing Anger After Voting Against Enhancements to Protect Domestic Abuse Survivors

April 17, 2021

Conservative Members of Parliament (MPs) voted against several amendments to the domestic abuse bill on Thursday including: placing serial domestic abusers and stalkers on the current Violent and Sex Offender Register (Visor); giving family court judges training on sexual abuse; and providing greater protection to migrant victims of domestic violence. “Domestic abuse remains … [Read more...]

CJE’s Mission

CJE is a nonprofit organization based in San Rafael, California. Our mission is to protect child abuse and domestic violence survivors in the U.S. family court system and to foster accountability throughout the judicial branch.

For nearly two decades, the Center has been a voice for vulnerable children and a catalyst for child safety as we work tirelessly to expose the systemic failures in U.S. family courts that are harming countless children. We accomplish this by educating the media, lawmakers, and the public about the need for significant reforms while we spearhead legislation focused on keeping children safe and alive through their parent’s divorce or separation.
