‘How many more kids does the system have to fail?’ Father Says Murder of His 2-year-old Son Jayden Hines was Preventable

June 5, 2021

Despite his concerns with his son's safety while visiting his mother, Rashawd Hines had to follow the court-mandated custody arrangement and drop off his son, not knowing it would be the last time he'd see his little boy, 2-year-old Jayden Hines. Lakeland police say Alegray Jones, a man dating Jayden’s mother, beat the young boy until he was unconscious. Instead of calling 911, he texted the … [Read more...]

Community Rallies for Reform in Courts After 4-year-old Greyson Kessler Killed in Murder-Suicide by Father

June 3, 2021

Alison Kessler had been fighting in the courts to get her 4-year-old son, Greyson Kessler, out of his father’s custody after he sent her pages and pages of abusive, threatening messages, but to no avail in court.  On the day she filed an emergency order (Judge Michael Kaplan denied the motion), officers found Greyson shot to death along with his father. Father Kills His Two Sons After Texting Wife ‘You’re going to live with this the rest of your life.’

May 5, 2021

Paul Reinhart had separated from his wife and recently lost his high-paying executive job — in the early hours of May 4, 2021, he had bizarrely published 64 photos from their wedding 19 years ago to his Facebook page and texted his estranged wife, Minde, around the same time — “You should have put your family first,” he wrote. “Now it's too late. You're so selfish. You're going to live with this … [Read more...]

Florida Blames Mothers When Men Batter Them – Then Takes Away Their Children

December 16, 2020

Mothers victimized by violent men told child welfare workers the truth. They expected help. Instead, they lost their children. To get their children back, they are faced with and time-consuming obstacles that often are unrelated to the allegations against them.  In defiance of widely accepted best practices, Florida aggressively removes children from parents – most of them mothers – who … [Read more...]

CJE’s Mission

CJE is a nonprofit organization based in San Rafael, California. Our mission is to protect child abuse and domestic violence survivors in the U.S. family court system and to foster accountability throughout the judicial branch.

For nearly two decades, the Center has been a voice for vulnerable children and a catalyst for child safety as we work tirelessly to expose the systemic failures in U.S. family courts that are harming countless children. We accomplish this by educating the media, lawmakers, and the public about the need for significant reforms while we spearhead legislation focused on keeping children safe and alive through their parent’s divorce or separation.
