‘I’m afraid he might hurt me’: After Her Court Plea for Protection, Alyssa Broderick was Killed by Her Abusive Stepfather

April 24, 2021

Alyssa Broderick's murder is a horrific example of a long-standing problem that hardly ever makes headlines: America’s criminal justice system too often fails to protect victims of domestic and family violence from their abusers. It was her worst fear - her stepfather was out of jail and she knew she wasn’t safe. Then 16, Alyssa Broderick told a court that Stephen Broderick, a former … [Read more...]

Allen v. Farrow: Child Sexual Abuse is the Final Frontier

March 27, 2021

CJE colleagues Joan Meier and Danielle Pollack demonstrate the the lack of change in how family courts treat women trying to protect their children from sexual abuse through the lens of the Allen v. Farrow case. The Allen v Farrow docuseries currently on HBO brings into focus the unsettling — but all too prevalent — problem of child sex abuse within families. While the film’s narrative about the … [Read more...]

CJE’s Mission

CJE is a nonprofit organization based in San Rafael, California. Our mission is to protect child abuse and domestic violence survivors in the U.S. family court system and to foster accountability throughout the judicial branch.

For nearly two decades, the Center has been a voice for vulnerable children and a catalyst for child safety as we work tirelessly to expose the systemic failures in U.S. family courts that are harming countless children. We accomplish this by educating the media, lawmakers, and the public about the need for significant reforms while we spearhead legislation focused on keeping children safe and alive through their parent’s divorce or separation.
