The Problem with Family Court – ABC News Investigation

May 10, 2018

“Family court handles divorces, the division of assets, restraining orders and custody of children. In most cases, divorcing parents go through the process outside of the courtroom, through mediation. But high-conflict divorces, when the parties can’t agree, can end up on trial.” Read the series of stories on the ABC News website here. https://youtu.be/_olNl2EyjJ4 … [Read more...]

Recalling judges in Contra Costa and San Francisco counties

April 3, 2018

It was September of 2016. I was currently under CPS supervision from an unfortunate case that had been opened due to domestic violence (I was the victim) and substance abuse. Initially, CPS was going to award me full custody but chose to place my son in foster care after I allowed my domestically-abusive husband to see our son on my birthday. After Maryela Padilla was assigned to our case, … [Read more...]

CJE’s Mission

CJE is a nonprofit organization based in San Rafael, California. Our mission is to protect child abuse and domestic violence survivors in the U.S. family court system and to foster accountability throughout the judicial branch.

For nearly two decades, the Center has been a voice for vulnerable children and a catalyst for child safety as we work tirelessly to expose the systemic failures in U.S. family courts that are harming countless children. We accomplish this by educating the media, lawmakers, and the public about the need for significant reforms while we spearhead legislation focused on keeping children safe and alive through their parent’s divorce or separation.
