Kate Grahn and Mick Giacchino hosted an intimate backyard fundraiser for CJE on Saturday, May 16th in Tarzana, California. We are incredibly grateful for their generosity, and the generosity of their families and friends, who helped us raise more than $5,000, and the funds are still rolling in! We cannot do our work without the support of good people who care about protecting children in our family courts, since we are 100% reliant on individual donors to keep our advocacy work going!
Kate and Mick’s teacher at Campbell Hall School, Robe Roberson, challenged his students to “take on a civil injustice” in the world and do something to become a part of the solution. Kate and Mick produced a short documentary about the family court crisis, which they premiered that night. Their rock band -who were all decked out in Stop Court Crimes t-shirts- performed a sweet set of original and cover tunes for the 60 guests who attended. We were so inspired by the outpouring of support for our work that night that CJE is considering launching a youth program to ensure that the next generation of activists for family court reform can continue to develop their leadership skills.
A Big Thanks to Mick, Kate, their parents and bandmates, and also to protective mom Deanne, who courageously spoke publicly for the first time about her harrowing experience trying to protect her daughter in the Santa Clara Family Court System. Stay tuned for video clips from this uplifting soiree in the coming weeks!
